Item # 558560
July 17, 1914
SPRINGFIELD DAILY REPUBLICAN, Massachusetts, July 17, 1914
* Babe Ruth in his first week of playing MLB baseball
* Boston Red Sox pitcher
The sports page on page 13 contains an account of what was Babe Ruth's second baseball game, at that time a member of the Boston Red Sox. The details of the game give some text to him, with:
* ...Ruth, the new Boston twirler, began pitching, but a pass, followed by Crawford's double and a triple by Veach during the fourth inning caused his retirement, two runs scoring..." (see photos). Below the box score is another mention of Babe Ruth.
Very rare to find mention of Babe Ruth within the text of game reports from this early in his career.
Complete in 20 pages, a few margin tears and some archival mends to margin tears, generally in very nice, clean condition.
