THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, March 12, 1862

* Monitor vs. Merrimac - Hampton roads naval battle
* Nice front page map

The front page features a quite large Civil War map headed: "The Line Of The Potomac From Washington To Its Mouth"

Showing Manassas, Fredericksburgh, and the Line of the Rappahannock & their Relations to Richmond." The balance of the ftpg. is taken up with related war reports including one column heads such as: "Manassas Evacuated" "The Rebel Stronghold Occupied by the Union Forces" "Jackson's Force Deserted at Winchester" "Battle Of Pea Ridge" "Ben McCulloch Killed" "Brilliant Manoeuvres by the Union Army" and more.

The back page includes a small report on "The Ericsson Battery" which is concerning the iron-clad Monitor of Monitor vs.Merrimac fame. But the bkpg. also has another and much better report concerning the Monitor & the Merrimac under the heading: "News From Fortress Monroe" "Partial List of the Killed, Wounded & Missing in the Late Engagement" "Rebel Accounts of the Affair" & more (see). Part of the report includes: "...The officers & men of the Monitor speak in the highest terms of her performances, and think they might have destroyed the Merrimac without much difficulty if they had been allowed an opportunity..." with more (see).

Complete in 8 pages and in great condition. A very historic issue.
