On the front page under "South Carolina College" is a notice issued by order of Governor Drayton stating that "...a premium of Three hundred Dollars is offered for the best original plan of a College which shall be transmitted under seal to the President of the board..." plus details about the expense, materials to be used and the accommodations. Note: The University of South Carolina was founded in 1801.
