April 26, 1945
THE STARS AND STRIPES, London edition, England, April 26, 1945  Self-described as "The Newspaper of U.S. Armed Forces in the European Theater of Operations".

Views of Nazi atrocities with direct and/or indirect Holocaust reporting (see images).  Headings include:  "Russian Armies Circle Berlin", "Allies Deeper Into Redoubt; British Inside Bremen", "Die in War or Live in Peace, Truman Appeals to Frisco" (regarding the United Nations conference to build world security organization...", "SS Troops Burn Prisoners Alive", and more.  However, the most noteworthy content are the two images:  "The Rough Road Back", with the inscription "A torn picture of Hitler at his side, this general of the Volkssturm committed suicide in the City Hall of Leipzig rather than face U.S. Army 1st Army troops....", AND, "The Pictures Don't Lie", which shows the body of a Nazi atrocity victim.  The related coverage discusses similar "discoveries" and reassures the readers that the international press has agreed to print such images for all the world to see.

The issue is complete in 8 pages, has various edge tears, is evenly browned, and is very fragile.  There are pencil markings above the masthead with the words "War Dept".
