THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, England, October, 1750

* Early horse racing carriage

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
A full page is taken up with: "Wheel Carriage invented for a Newmarket Race" with the text and the print of the carriage presented vertically (see).
A half page has: "Lunar Eclipse Calculated" with an illustration (see).
This issue features a very nice foldout plate captioned: "A View of the Grand Duke's Gallery and Old Palace at Florence from the River Side" which measures 8 by 10 inches (see).
Another page has an article: "On a Dutch Medal" with a print of it (see).
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe.
Complete in 48 pgs. with full title/index page which contains an engraving of St. John's Gate.  Measures about 5 by 8 inches, two inked library stamps at a bottom margin affect nothing, otherwise very nice condition.
