DAILY CHRONICLE & SENTINEL, from Augusta, Georgia, dated March 9, 1864
* Rare title from Augusta GA Georgia during the Confederacy...
* Civil war original
A very rare newspaper from the Confederacy, and rather late in the war as well.
The front page has several items on the war including a report beginning: "The first thirty days of the spring campaign have opened gloriously. All around our lines successes have attended our arms...The enemy have been everywhere repulsed..." with more.
Also: "Letter from the Front" is datelined Dalton, March 5, with some nice & detailed reporting. Also: "Interesting From Mississippi" "Sherman Back to Vicksburg" and other war-related items.
The front page also has two columns of "Special Notices" and ads.
There is more war reporting on pages 2 & 3, items headed: "Letter From Western Virginia" "A Spirited and Patriotic Order from Gen. W. H. T. Walker" "Letter From Northern Virginia" "Action of the Twelfth Georgia Battalion" "Northern News" "Action of the Third Georgia Battalion of Sharpshooters" "From the Front" "From Charleston" and a bit more. There are some ads on pgs. 2 & 3 as well.
The back page has one column of news with the balance taken up with ads & notices including one "$500 Reward" ad for two "runaway Negro fellows" with details.
Complete in 4 pages, a few very small holes caused by paper weakness & not wear. A scalloped piece from the very top affects blank margin only on pages 1 & 2 not touching any text. A very slight separation a the front leaf fold juncture not causing any loss. Generally in nice condition.
