BALLOU'S PICTORIAL, Boston, Massachusetts, January 22, 1859
* Rare Winslow Homer print
* The Dalai Lama from 1859 : Tibet : Buddhist leader
The ftpg. has a nice print of: "Hon. Charles Hale, Speaker of the House, Massachusetts Legislature" with an extensive article on him as well which begins: "The accompanying portrait was drawn expressly for us by Homer from a photograph recently taken...". I find it rare that Winslow Homer was credited with his work within the article about the print.
Equally as intriguing in this issue is the terrific & large back page print captioned: "A Lama Of The Dalai Sect, Thibet [Tibet], With His Praying Wheel and Trident". There is a related article on him as well headed: "A Lama of Thibet" (see photos).
Complete in 16 pgs., great condition, measures about 11 by 15 inches.
