March 16, 1791
GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES, Philadelphia, March 16, 1791 Nearly half of the front page has "New Revenue Law" which is an Act of concerning repealing the duties on distilled spirits, carrying over to pg. 2 and then continues in a future issue.
The back page has a very historic Act of Congress, titled: "An Act to Amend 'An Act for Establishing the Temporary & Permanent seat of the Government of the United States" signed in type by George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.
This Act gave some flexibility to the President as to where he could place the "ten miles square" that would be the new seat of government, and which gave approval for the parcel which ultimately would become Washington, D.C. A very historic item on the creation of our national capital.
The back page also has another Act of Congress signed by Washington, Jefferson & Adams (see). Pg. 4 also contains an endorsement for a new book on the history of the United States, signed: Thomas Jefferson (see).
Four pages, some discoloration to the right, blank margin, otherwise in very nice condition.
