THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, July 12, 1781 An inside page has a report: "Letter from a Gentleman in New York..." which includes: "Not only the rebel land forces but their sea force has been pretty roughly handled lately...Indeed mobs & mutinies already rage, subverting all order & good government. The Philadelphia rioters were carrying every think before them, trampling on power & authority wherever a shadow of it remained..." and ending with: "...This the much wished-for period seems fast to approach when the baseless fabric of Congress shall be shaken to pieces & its distracted States become useful colonies."
