Printed in the dateline is: "Confederate States Of America" which is rarely found on Southern newspapers. The front page has several war reports, including: "Surrender Of Fort Macon" "The Bombardment Of Fort Macon--Further Details" & "From Richmond" "Official Correspondence--Commodore Farragut's Summons For Surrender--Noble Spirited Reply Of Mayor Monroe." Summons is signed in type: D. G. Farragut, & reply is signed in type: John F. Monroe. Other minor war-related content, and an ad: "Sale of Valuable Negroes.--Attention is invited to the sales this day by Wilbur & Son, of a lot of valuable Negroes." The bkpg. has a poem: "The Soldier's Dream; 'In His Blanket On The Ground.'" There is also a very interesting extract of a personal letter from a Confederate surgeon to his mother: "The Battle of Shiloh--A Surgeon's Experience." Takes most of a column. First leaf has a small hole at the fold juncture, some lite margin staining, some foxing.
