Near the bottom of the front page is an erroneous report of the death of Kit Carson, reading in part: "It is reported that Kit Carson, celebrated as the guide & companion of Lt. Col. Fremont in his dangerous explorations of the West, has been killed on the plains by the Indians..."
In truth he did not die until 1868. Interesting and rare mention of the legendary Kit Carson in a pre-Civil War newspaper.
