April 13, 1862
THE NEW YORK HERALD, April 13, 1862 The first column has some nice headlines concerning the battle of Shiloh, including: "The Victory at Pittsburg" "Additional Reports Of The Battle" "Rebel Account of the First Day's Fight" "Beauregard's Official Despatch" "Victory Claimed by the Rebels" "General A. Sidney Johnston's Death Confirmed" "The Battle of Shiloh" and more, with the text taking 2 1/2 columns & is filled by a half column headed: "The Rebels In The Battle" (see photos). The ftpg. also has a small one column map headed: "Strategical Importance of Huntsville" (see). The balance of the ftpg. has much on the Civil War, with even more on inside pgs. including another small map: "The Spoils at Island No. 10" (see).
Rare to have mention of the both "Shiloh" (Confederate name) and "Pittsburg" (Yankee name) in the same stack of headlines. Several creases caused in the printing process, otherwise very nice condition.
