THE PENNSYLVANIA CHRONICLE & UNIVERSAL ADVERTISER, Phila., July 18, 1768.

* King dissolves the General Court in Massachusetts...
* Colonial Pennsylvania...

See the photos below for the inside page Proclamation--For Dissolving the General Court, effective July 1. Schlesinger notes that the Court was dissolved after the legislature defies the governors order to rescind the circular letter of Sam Adams concerning the Townshend Acts. Ultimately the 17 delegates who did vote to revoke the letter are harassed by the Sons of Liberty & voted out of their seats in the next election. Great piece of history! This same page has a report of an encounter with customs officials at the Boston docks, involving the king's ship "Romney", which was involved in the incident with the taking of John Hancock's ship the "Liberty" (see photos). This issue also has numerous documents concerning the troubled relationship between England and the colonies. Some light dampstaining in the top quadrant, untrimmed, generally in nice condition.
