A nice issue from this significant year of the Revolutionary War. This issue includes a five page "Debate...for a bill for composing the present troubles & for quieting the minds of his Majesty's subjects in America", which has some great content on the Revolutionary War (see photos for the beginning).
There is also a great "Letter from Gen. Lee to Gen. Burgoyne" which takes 1 1/2 pgs., with parts reading: "...the whole British Empire stands tottering on the brink of ruin & you have it in your power to prevent the fatal catastrophe...You ask me if it is independence at which the Americans aim? I Answer, No! the idea never entered a single American head until a most intolerable oppression forced it upon them..." plus too much more to list here, signed: C. Lee.
Other war reports fall under the heading: "Account of the Proceedings of the American Colonists since the Passing the Boston Port Bill", one beginning: "Some skirmishes have happened in Virginia in which neither party have much to boast..." Includes a list of the "Corps in America". Another report begins: "Gen. Montgomery...made an attack upon the city of Quebec, which...proved unsuccessful..." with more. A wealth of fine content here.
Also included is nearly 4 1/2 pages related to the "Late Voyages of the Resolution and Adventure" (Captain Cook).
This issue still has the two full page engraved plates called for (see photos), one titled: "Dr. Saml. Johnson's Introduction to a Highland Hut". The issue measures about 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches and is in terrific condition.
