THE WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Maryland, October 15, 1825

* Mordecai Noah nominates himself governor & judge of Israel
* Much on the Masonic installation of De Witt Clinton

This small size newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the19th century.

As noted in Wikipedia: "Niles edited and published the Weekly Register until 1836, making it into one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States and himself into one of the most influential journalists of his day. Devoted primarily to politics, Niles' Weekly Register is considered an important source for the history of the period."

One of the articles on an inside page reads in its entirety:

"Mr. Noah, who has nominated himself 'governor and judge of Israel', which he tells us is the same as king and high priest, laughs at some person in New York who offers himself, self-nominated, to the people of one of the counties for the office of sheriff. Why should an elephant regard the room occupied by a mouse? The difference between them is not greater than that of the king of the Jews and the hangman of a county. 'The eagles suffers little birds to sing!' "

Famed newspaper publisher Mordecai Manuel Noah is credited with being the first Jew born in the United States to reach national prominence.

Among the other reports in this issue are:

* "The Chilian Republic"
* "The Cherokee Indians"
* "Franklin Institute"
* "Masonic Installation" which is lengthy on the ceremonies installing the Grand Master De Witt Clinton, the text taking over 4 pages (see photos for the beginning).

This issue is complete in 16 pages, measures about 6 1/2 by 10 inches with various foxing. Generally in nice condition.
