THE DAILY JOURNAL, Wilmington, North Carolina, May 24, 1861 A nice feature of this issue is the printing of: "Confederate States of America" which appears in the dateline. The entire ftpg. is taken up with ads including one illustrated ad headed: "Negroes For Sale". Pg. 2 has: "Things at Raleigh" which takes 1 1/2 columns; "The News" which has some war-related items, one of which is: "All dispatches sent North are seized by the Lincoln Government, with a view of obtaining information of our movements & procuring evidence against Northern sympathizers." also: "The Glorious Old North State" and a report beginning: "The Federal troops are believed to have taken possession of Alexandria...". Over half of pg. 3 is report headed: "Extra Session of the Provisional Congress of the Confederate States" held at Montgomery, Alabama. A small tape mend to the right edge of pgs. 1 & 3, folio size, very nice condition.
