THE ATHENIAN MERCURY, London, January 3, 1692.
* Rare Salem MA Witch Trials advertismeent
* Original 17th century item
Although there are some issues of this early newspaper which contains back page advertisements for the book on the Salem witch trials, this ad far exceeds them all with the much larger-than-normal type. The ad reads:
* The Tryals of several WITCHES, lately Executed in New-England, with many remarkable Curiosities therein Occurring, By Cotton Mather. Published by the Special Command of his Excellency the Governour of New-England. First printed in Boston, and now Reprinted in London for John Dunton at the Raven in the Poultrey
A rare and unique item relating to perhaps the most notable event in 17th century American history. This is the only periodical that we have ever seen with any period reference to the famous witch trials at Salem, Massachusetts.
Very rare as such. A single sheet measuring about 12 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches, never-trimmed margins, and in nice condition.
