THE NEW YORK HERALD, May 17, 1862  This 8 page newspaper is in good condition (except for a large tear on pages 5-6 (unrelated area)) due to the use of cotton and rag paper during this very historic time in U.S. history. This issue is loaded with advertisements and Civil War reports throughout from the day it was first reported which includes a back page map: "THE RECENT SKIRMISH NEAR CORINTH, Position of Farmington, Chester Creek and Surroundings."
Headlines in this issue includes: "Important From the Southwest," "Account of Gen.
