THE SALT LAKE DAILY HERALD, Salt Lake City, Utah (territory), August 16, 1876
* General George Custer massacre
* Buffalo Bill
* Statue of Liberty
Three-quarters of a column on the front page is taken up with: "Terry's Start--His Forces & Probable Campaign" is the military follow-up to the campaign against the Indians after the Custer massacre. Some nice content here (see photos).
The ftpg. also features a huge & illustrated advertisement for the "Cooper, Bailey & Co's." circus (see photos). Pg. 3 has two reports concerning the Indian campaign, one including a very rare mention of Buffalo Bill Cody in his role as an Indian scout, reading: "...Buffalo Bill comes with the Fifth cavalry as a scout and guide..." (see photos).
The back page has a report: "The Great Statue of Liberty" which notes that the "...first shipment of a portion of the great statue of Liberty, which is to be erected on Bedloe's Island, in this harbor as a lighthouse, was received from France..." with more.
Four pgs., never bound nor trimmed, nice condition.
