THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, June, 1765  The top of an inside page has a report announcing that the Stamp Act was among 223 bills which recently received the Royal Assent from the King, and legitimizes its creation with: "By the act for laying a stamp duty on printed news papers, deeds, and parchments in America the respectrive duties on each are the same as in Great Britain, the monies arising therefrom, to be applied towards the necessary defence of the colonies. In the course of the last session of parliament 223 bills received the Royal assent." An historic and very timely report announcing the Stamp Act and why it was created.
