THE PENNSYLVANIA EVENING POST, Philadelphia, Jan. 11, 1776 The entire front page is taken up with political issues in England with much relating to America. Portions include: "The arguments in the House of Peers turned entirely on American affairs...pointed out the false policy of continuing the dispute with the colonies & urged administration to stop the farther ravages of fire & sword..." and "...Hon. the Lord Mayor spoke against the address; called the war against the Americans a murderous war...Gov. Johnston spoke...he averted that a general dissatisfaction prevailed amongst the King's troops already at Boston...General Conway defended the Americans with an unusual warmth of argument..." with much more (see photos). This discussion carries over to take all of pages 2 & 3, again with portions including concerns over the events in America, including: "...praying a cessation of hostilities with America for the purpose of obtaining time & thereby giving an opportunity for a happy & lasting reconciliation with his Majesty's American colonies..." and "...we see the real design of those desperate men, who, by the grossest misrepresentations have deluded & precipitated our unhappy fellow subjects in America...".
The back page has some items from Philadelphia including a Resolve with a list of doctors who are requested to examine all candidates who want to become surgeons to the various battalions (see photos). Complete in 4 pages, measures 8 by 10 inches, very nice condition.
