Here is a complete bound volume of THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE from London containing the months of January thru June, 1793 The content within these 580+ pages is extremely wide-ranging with each of the 6 monthly issues having various news of the day--including American reports--political coverage, essays, religion, literary items, and so much more. Plus, this volume still has the 19 full page plates, a few of which are shown in the photos below. Each plate has a blind (non-inked) embossed stamp near the margin. In additional to the plates the March issue contains an extremely desirable print within the text, showing the newly invented guillotine with the various parts labeled, even labeling the person as the "sufferer" (see photos). This print is significant considering it was recently used on Louis XVI. Within this issue also is very good coverage of the trial of Louis XVI. The January issue has the report of him being beheaded, with an obituary on him as well (see photos for portions of the report). The February issue contains the "Last Will & Testament" of Louis XVI, and the report of the re-election of George Washington as President, plus a nice item on Blanchard & ballooning. Each monthly issue has a full title/index page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate (see photos). Bound in modern & very nice, clean brick-red color library bindings with gold inking at the spine. The pages within are in very nice, clean condition with some occasional smudging on a few pages. A great opportunity for an historic volume of 18th magazines which could be disbound into separate issues for individual sale. Measures about 5 by 8 1/2 inches.
