August 15, 1857

BALLOU'S PICTORIAL, Boston, August 15, 1857  Winslow Homer prints are very desirable, and among the more difficult periodical  titles in which to find Homer prints is "Ballou's Pictorial", as it rarely comes on the collector market from the Homer era.
Here is one such issue, with a Winslow Homer print on the front page titled: "The Fountain On Boston Common"" (see). The ftpg. also has a related article, and even mentions Homer with the text beginning: "Our artist, Mr. Homer, has furnished us on this page with a delightful sketch of a scene dear to the heart of every Bostonian...". Very rarely is there mention of the artist in a related article.
You get the complete 16 page issue which also contains other prints within, but they pale in comparative significance to the Homer print.
This issue has mild wear at the edges, some edge tears, and scattered foxing and/or browning. There is a very light damp stain in the bottom portion of the Homer print and a tape mend at the bottom of pg. 2 (see).
