June 09, 1812
SALEM GAZETTE, Salem, Mass., June 9, 1812.
* War of 1812 begins with the war declaration from President James Madison
Breaking news from a Baltimore paper stating that President Madison was going to send a message to Congress about the nations foreign affairs and that the next day the committee of foreign relations ...will report a DECLARATION of WAR. On June 19, Madison would officially proclaim the United States to be in a state of war with Great Britain, thus starting the War of 1812. One of the earliest reports about the decision to go to war. This issue has some dirtiness in the margins and in unrelated text, some lite margin staining close to the mentioned content, otherwise in good untrimmed condition.
