* The War of 1812 begins
* The United States declares war on Great Britain

On page 3 under the bold head "WAR" (see inset) is breaking news that the United State has declared war against Great Britain, marking the start of the War of 1812. A report from a Washington newspaper, the National Intelligencer, says in part: "The Senate...have been sitting with closed doors...the last two days....before their adjournment...the proposition said to have been made by the House of Representatives finally PASSED the Senate by several votes..." Under "General Orders" is a brief statement: "Gen. Bloomfield announces to the Troops, that WAR is declared against Great Britain." One of the boldest headlines weve seen concerning the start of the War of 1812. Top and bottom of this report are black-bordered which is rather unusual! An area in the first column on pg. 3 has heavy soiling and a small hole, plus an archival mend to a minor tear, some dirtiness and soiling at the top of the second leaf, some margin dirtiness as well. Untrimmed.
