Record flight in a "Wright biplane"...

Item # 177837

July 23, 1910

HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, July 23, 1910  The full front page is a photo captioned: "The Aeroplane That Made A Record Ascension - Walter Brookins and the Wright biplane which broke the world's record for altitude in a 6,175 foot ascent at Atlantic City..." with a bit more.
It is rare to find a full front page photo devoted to the early world of manned flight.
Also of interest is a page 3 article that would take more national resonence 53 years later. Headed: "The Bible in the Schools" the article reports on the Illinois Supreme Court outlawing: "...the reading of the Bible, the singing of hymns, and the recital of the Lord's Prayer in the public schools...that the constitution of Illinois guaranteed to all citizens the free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, but that 'one does not enjoy the free exercise of religious worship who is compelled to join in any form of religious worship'...".
Other photos and prints throughout this 24 page issue.
