Miner's riots... The Molly Maguires...

Item # 175266

February 18, 1888

HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, February 18, 1888

Full ftpg: "Negro Sportsmen in Louisiana" shows two of them duck hunting. 1/2 page print: "Interior of a Passenger-Car at the Moment of the Collision Near Steamburg, New York". Nice centerfold: "Sleighing in Central Park, New York City". Full page: "Scenes and Characters from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' as Produced at Daly's Theatre".

Also included within this issue is the fullpage, "Miners' Riots at Shenandoah, Pennsylvania", with the supporting article, "Miner's Riots", which makes several mentions of the Molly Maguires and their continued influence in the coal regions of Pennsylvania with specific mentions of the Shenandoah, PA riots and the 1870's murders (in Mauch Chunk... now Jim Thorpe) for which they were blamed. Quit interesting.

Other news and advertisements of the day are included. Complete in sixteen pages.
