Short-lived campaign newspaper to electd Andrew Jackson...

Item # 153124 UNITED STATES' TELEGRAPH--EXTRA, Washington,  1828  This was a campaign journal "...devoted exclusively to the Presidential election..." as stated in the masthead. It was published by Duff Green, who had come to Washington to establish a newspaper to promote the candidacy of Andrew Jackson. Mott says, "Green proved to be of the hard-hitting politician type of editor." which could be taken literally as during the publication of the "Extra", Green got involved in a fist-fight in the Capitol.
The "Extra" is loaded with campaign speeches and rebuttals to charges made against the General. It was published weekly until October 15 and then sporadically four more times, There is no doubt that Green's campaign efforts helped Jackson to victory. His newspaper became the official organ of the Jackson's administration.
Sixteen pages, 5 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches, scattered foxing, generally nice condition.
