HARPER'S MONTHLY, New York, Oct., 1873 Inside has a fourteen page article about the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute. Has a total of eleven illustrations of the buildings and activities at the Institute, plus a nice print (see photos) of the Ball Club that measures about 2 3/4 by 3 inches.
The Institute, founded as a co-educational school for negroes shortly after the Civil War, is now known as Hampton University. Early and uncommon for Negro Baseball. Quarto-size, 160 pgs., good condition.
