September 26, 1679

DOMESTICK INTELLIGENCE OR NEWS BOTH FROM CITY AND COUNTRY, from London, England, dated September 26, 1679 A very early singlesheet newspaper published by Benjamin Harris (his imprint appears on the bottom of the back page), the first newspaper printer in the colonies. In 1690 he published DOMESTICK INTELLIGENCE BOTH FOREIGN & DOMESTICK in Boston. That newspaper lasted but a single issue. Harris spent several years in jail in London for libelous printing, and upon release he emigrated to America to continue his printing trade. This is the newspaper he published before heading for the colonies.

This singlesheet issue has wide margins, some stray ink writings on the back page, otherwise is in very nice condition, and measures about 8 by 12 inches.
