June 29, 1928

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, June 29, 1928

* Governor Alfred E. Smith
* Democratic nomination for President

The front page has a great banner headline: "NAME SMITH BY 850 VOTES" with subheads and photo of Smith. Nice for display. Full back page pictorial is also nice for display. (see) Great to have from the city where the convention took place. Very rare as such.
Complete with all 40 pages, this is the "rag edition" printed on very high quality newsprint meant for institutional holdings. In great condition as such
.
wikipedia notes: Alfred Emanuel Smith, Jr., known in private and public life as Al Smith, (December 30, 1873 New York City - October 4, 1944 New York City) was elected Governor of New York four times, and was the Democratic U.S. presidential candidate in 1928. He was the first Roman Catholic and Irish-American to run for President as a major party nominee. He lost the election to Herbert Hoover. He then became president of the Empire State, Inc. and was instrumental in getting the Empire State Building built during the Great Depression.
