* Jane Bolin sworn in as judge (NYC)
* 1st African-American black Woman

The top of page 7 has a very notable item, being a report of the first African-American woman judge in the United States.
The article features a photo of Jane Bolin being sworn into office, headed: "Mayor Swears In Negro Woman as Judge; Summons Her to Office, Then Breaks News". The article begins: "Told by telephone that Mayor LaGuardia wanted to see her yesterday...Miss Jane M. Bolin obeyed the summons, wondering what the Mayor wished to speak to her about and got one of the surprises of her life when he swore her in as the first Negro woman justice of the Domestic Relations Court..." with much more on her life.
Jane Bolin was the first black woman to graduate from Yale Law School, the first to join the New York City Bar Association and the first to join the New York City Law Department. She became the first black woman to serve as a judge in the United States when she was sworn into this office on July 22.
