January 17, 1859

NEW YORK DAILY TRIBUNE, January 17, 1859

* The Emancipation Question
* Karl Marx - German socialist
* 1st Appearance

Whereas Karl Marx was a foreign correspondent for the New York Tribune, the NY Tribune also occasionally published some of his stand-alone work. Such is the case with this issue. Page 6 has what is classified as one of his minor works: "RUSSIA - THE EMANCIPATION QUESTION." What makes this printing significant is that while some of his works eventually made their way into newspapers after they had been printed in book or pamphlet form, this is the first appearance of this writing from Marx - making this a rare find. See images for details regarding his thoughts on this timely topic.

Other news of the day along with period advertising are found throughout.

Eight pages, somewhat loose at the left spine, but in overall very nice condition.
