November 09, 1860

THE NEW YORK HERALD, November 9, 1860

* Abraham Lincoln's election win
* Pre Civil War tensions growing
* Southern rebellion - secession

The entire front page is taken up with reports leading to the outbreak of the Civil War with first column heads including: "THE CRISIS IN THE SOUTH" "Exciting News from South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia." 'Preparations for Secession" "Message of the Governor of Georgia" "Interesting Despatches from Richmond, Petersburg, Charleston, Columbia, Montgomery, Milledgeville, Nashville and New Orleans" "The Programme of the Secessionists" & more.
Page 4 has: "The Effect in the South of the Election of Lincoln--Manifest Duty of the President Elect" takes 1 1/2 columns with some great text (photos show the beginning).
Eight pages, irregular along the spine, generally nice.
