Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: WHITE PINE CONE, White Pine, Gunnison County, Colorado, November 27, 1885 * Very rare Old West title * Ghost town - silver mining An interesting newspaper from a fascinating town which went through two boom & bust periods. As the hyperlink notes, White Pine began in 1880 as a fledgling mining camp just west of the Continental Divide, boomed in the mid-1880's then went bust by 1893. But in 1930 thru 1944 corporate mining resurrected in White Pine, only to go bust again in 1953, closing down the town for good. "Today only a few people live in White Pine during the summer. Rare CRESTED BUTTE Gunnison County COLORADO Silver Mining Town 1882 Newspaper

eBay Fixed Price Item # 391900489750

Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: CRESTED BUTTE REPUBLICAN, Colorado, May 24, 1882 * Rare Gunnison County title * Volume I issue A rare newspaper which lasted for less than two years. The only institutional holding of this title noted in Gregory (Union List of American Newspapers) was the Kansas Historical Society but that collection was purchased in its entirety by us. In the 1860s and 1870s coal and silver mines began to open in the Crested Butte area and many little mining towns formed. However, when silver mining hit on hard times, many of these towns failed. Crested Butte was in a better position to survive because it served as a supply town to the surrounding area. The other industry that supported Crested Butte was... See More

eBay Fixed Price Item # 391704076148

Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: THE TOMBSTONE EPITAPH, Arizona, August 10, 1881 * Best Old West title to be had * Pre Gunfight at the O.K. Corral Few could argue for a more recognizable title from the Old West, nor could any town be more linked to the romance of the West than this one. Tombstone is steeped in Western lore, and the several movies done concerning the gunfight at the O.K. Corral have kept this town in popular culture. This issue was printed less than 2 months before the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The top of page 2 has: "The citizens of Las Vegas have presented the plucky sheriff, Pat Garrett, with a purse of $1078.50 for his services in killing Billy the 'Kid'. Rare GUNNISON Colorado Old Western Dry Goods Advertisements 1882 Newspaper

eBay Fixed Price Item # 391517891723

Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: THE GUNNISON ADVERTISER, Colorado, June, 1882 * Rare Old West title * In-house publication for dry goods This is an interesting "newspaper", actually more an advertising piece: "Published Semi-Occasionally by S. E. Dawson & Co., Dealers in Dry Goods, Millinery, Notions..." as noted at the top of page 2. The content is almost entirely taken up with advertisements for this store. It is noted as "Vol. 1 No. 4" issue, although it was "Established 1880", so it was obviously published semi-occasionally. Four pages, 10 by 14 1/2 inches, some staining, generally nice condition.

Rare GUNNISON Colorado Volume 1 Number 14 Old West 1883 Original Newspaper

eBay Fixed Price Item # 391317553623

Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: THE SUN, Gunnison, Colorado, Dec. 29, 1883 This would seem to be an unrecorded title as Union List of Serials notes a "Sun" newspaper beginning in Sept., 1893 and lasting just one year. But I suspect the listing is in error and should have noted an n1883 beginning as this is the vol. 1 number 14 issue. In any case very rare as only one institution has any issues of this title recorded. Gunnison is in Central Colorado and boomed with mining and cattle ranching in the 1870's. An 8 page newspaper with a wide variety of news items, local tidbits and curious anecdotes. Rejoined at the spine, light toning at the margins, nice condition.
