Baseball... Playing against a traveling theater...

NEW YORK TRIBUNE, April 18, 1871 The frontpage of the issue features a report of "Baseball -- Eckfords vs. Tony Pastors" being a short report and box score. This was not a typical baseball game as Tony Pastors was actually a Traveling Theater, much like vaudeville. This also gives an interesting description of each team's uniforms.

Sitting Bull... Boss Tweed...

AMERICAN SOCIALIST, ONEIDA, N.Y., Nov. 30, 1876 Inside has one paragraph re: "The hostile Indians under Sitting Bull are hard pressed by the U.S. troops...Sitting Bull refused to surrender unless...". Item re. the imprisoning of Wm. Tweed as well. Tabloid-size newspaper, nice.

Here is a great doublepage centerfold of Harper's Weekly newspaper dated July 12, 1884. This print is captioned: "The Democratic Convention at Chicago--Some Characteristic Features of the City" including several scenes. A beautiful item for display, measuring 16 by 22 inches. In great condition. This is not the complete issue, but rather 8 pages which includes the centerfold.
